The West strengthens measures against Russian sanctions evasion

The West is significantly tightening its measures to counter Russian sanctions evasion.
Following the adoption of its 14th sanctions package, the European Union is reinforcing its efforts to prevent the re-export of sensitive goods to Russia through intermediary countries such as Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. As Moscow increasingly relies on these trade routes to circumvent restrictions, European companies are now required to implement stricter export controls, enhanced traceability mechanisms, and more rigorous verification of end-users and high-risk partners.

These new measures aim to increase the cost and difficulty of circumvention while slowing down Russia’s ability to sustain its war effort. They also reflect a broader geopolitical strategy: closing loopholes, holding foreign intermediaries accountable, and strengthening the EU’s economic and strategic resilience. In this evolving regulatory environment, Western companies must swiftly adapt their compliance frameworks to avoid accidental violations and ensure full alignment with the EU’s tightened export control regime.
